SEPTEMBER

I cannot believe how fast the month of September has flown by. It has been a great month at school and I have enjoyed some nice warm fall weather. Here are a few updates about what has been going on at school.

- Last week we started power hour. Ask your child about power hour and what they are learning. I personally love power hour because it gives us the opportunity to better meet individual needs and provide small group instruction.

-On Wednesday I will be sending home a note about SEP conferences. Please confirm your scheduled time and return to school. I look forward to meeting with each of you!

-This week we will be finishing chapter 2 in Math. Please work with your child on memorizing basic addition and subtraction facts. Next week we will begin place value to 100.

-This year we are LUCKY to have new technology in our classrooms. It has been fun for me to learn to use a SMART board along with the students. The past few days we have also been using clickers. The students seem to really enjoy using clickers and it is great to get immediate feedback.

-October Book Orders will be sent home this week. There are two ways to order. The easiest way is to order and pay online. Of course, you can also return the order form and payment to school with your child. October Book orders will be due on Oct. 8th.

- Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, October 4th. Enjoy a long weekend with your family!

This week we will be studying sunflowers. We will learn about the life cycle of a sunflower along with some cool facts about sunflowers. We will sprout our own seeds and record what we observe in our journals. We will also write an informational paragraph about sunflowers.

Friday we will be having our first Math test on basic addition and subtraction.

August 30th- Sept. 3rd

- Book orders for this month are due Friday, September 10th. There are two ways to order. The easiest way to order is online. There is a link on the right side of this blog. The other way to order is to return the book order form with a check/cash to school with your child. Remember book orders are optional but are a great way to build your home library. There are a lot of quality books at a great price.

-Homework Update: As you might have noticed we have updated our 2nd grade homework policy. Homework should only take about 25 minutes to complete each night. Your child will be expected to read 20 minutes each evening along with a short math assignment. Spelling words will be on the back of the homework tracker so you know what words will be on the weekly spelling test.

Upcoming Dates:

-Friday, September 3rd is a half day of school. We will dismiss at noon.
-Monday, September 6th is Labor day. No School!
